Ahaar — food, as you eat it

What is collected

Nothing is collected by us. What you type is saved on your own device so the app can show it back to you. We operate no server that receives it.

Backup on Android

So that a reinstall or a new phone does not lose your information, the Android app keeps two copies of what you have entered, neither of which we can see:

Your own Google backup. Android’s built-in backup copies one Ahaar file to the Google account signed in on your phone, if backup is switched on in your phone’s settings. Google stores it under your account; on Android 9 and later it is end-to-end encrypted with your phone’s screen lock. It is put back when Ahaar is installed again on the same account. You can turn this off in your phone’s backup settings.

A file in Downloads. Ahaar also keeps the same file at Downloads › Ahaar › Ahaar-backup.json. It stays on your phone. Anyone who can open your phone’s files can read it, and you can delete it at any time.

Recipe videos are not included in either copy.

What is shared

Your profile, health answers, food records and household are never shared. There is no analytics, no advertising identifier, no advertising of any kind, and no crash reporting that carries your data.

Three optional features send one small thing, only when you use them and after asking you: scanning a barcode sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts to look up the product; looking up a food name Ahaar does not know sends that word; and reading a plate with the camera sends that photograph to be recognised. None of these carries your name, profile or records.

Health and fitness data

If you choose to connect a watch or band, Ahaar reads four things from Health Connect on your phone:

Steps, to show you how much you walked beside what you ate.
Active calories burned, shown for the same reason.
Weight, to update the weight already recorded in your profile, which is what Ahaar's calculations follow.
Exercise sessions, read for context about your day.

This access is read only. Ahaar never writes anything back to Health Connect or to your watch, and none of it is transmitted anywhere — it is displayed to you inside the app and stored on the same device as everything else. Ahaar requests these four permissions and no others; it does not request heart rate, sleep, exercise routes, distance, height, body fat or lean body mass. You can withdraw any or all of this at any time in Health Connect settings, and Ahaar will simply stop showing those figures.

Payments

In the Android app, subscriptions are handled by Google Play. Ahaar never sees your card number, your name or your billing address. Subscription status is checked through RevenueCat, which tells the app only whether a subscription is active.

On getahaar.com, payments are handled by Razorpay. You enter your UPI, card or bank details in Razorpay’s own payment window; Ahaar never sees them. Razorpay may ask for a phone number or email for the payment itself, under its own privacy policy. Ahaar’s server keeps only the Razorpay payment ID and the plan bought, so that an unlock code can be issued again if something goes wrong. It does not keep your name, phone number, email or anything you have entered in the app.

Children

Ahaar is intended for adults aged 18 and over and does not build plans for children. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.

How long it is kept

As long as you keep it. Deleting the app, or clearing the app's data, removes it permanently. There is no copy of your app data anywhere for us to delete on request, because there was never a copy. A web payment’s ID and plan are kept for as long as needed for accounts and tax records.

Your rights

Because the data never leaves your device, you already hold it. You can export it to a file, print it, or erase it from Settings at any time, without asking us and without our involvement.

Changes to this policy

If this changes — in particular if any future version of Ahaar sends more to a server — this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
